About the Flip Knife

Where the Flip Knife drops

The Flip Knife is part of the original knife set found in the first-generation cases: the CS:GO Weapon Case, eSports 2013, Operation Bravo Case, CS:GO Weapon Case 2, eSports 2013 Winter, eSports 2014 Summer and the Operation Phoenix and Vanguard cases. These supply the classic painted and anodized finishes (Fade, Crimson Web, Slaughter, Case Hardened, Blue Steel and the solid-color/camo finishes). The Chroma Case line (Chroma, Chroma 2, Chroma 3) added the high-demand finishes — Doppler, Marble Fade, Tiger Tooth, Damascus Steel and Ultraviolet. The Gamma cases (Gamma, Gamma 2) added Gamma Doppler, Autotronic, Lore, Bright Water, Black Laminate and Freehand. There is no Flip Knife in the newest weapon cases; it predates them.

Finishes worth knowing

Doppler is the headline finish, split into Phases 1–4 plus the rare Ruby (red), Sapphire (blue) and Black Pearl, each pulled from the same Doppler pool at low odds. Gamma Doppler runs Phases 1–4 plus Emerald (deep green). Marble Fade is prized for the Fire & Ice pattern, where red and blue marbling meet cleanly on the blade; layout depends on the pattern seed, and so-called 'true' Fire & Ice arrangements command a premium over 'fake FI'. Fade gives a full pink-yellow gradient where higher fade percentage is better. Tiger Tooth, Lore and Autotronic are popular for their finish art alone. Vanilla (the plain, un-painted Flip Knife) is its own collectible category with no float value at all.

Patterns and float behaviour

Two finishes are pattern-driven on the Flip. Case Hardened depends on the pattern index (seed): mostly blue plates ('blue gem') tiers are the chase, and a near-fully-blue playside is rare and expensive, while orange-heavy seeds are cheap. Marble Fade value hinges on whether the seed produces a clean Fire & Ice. For float, knives don't clean up to true factory zero the way some rifles do; Doppler and Gamma Doppler typically appear in Factory New/Minimal Wear, while camo and anodized finishes like Boreal Forest or Blue Steel show wear scratches more readily in higher-float conditions. Fade and Marble Fade ignore float for appearance but still carry an exterior label.

Cheapest way in and how it ranks

The budget entry points are the solid and camo finishes — Night, Urban Masked, Safari Mesh, Boreal Forest, Forest DDPAT, Scorched, Stained and Blue Steel — which are usually the lowest-priced ★ Flip Knives on the market. Doppler, Marble Fade and Fade sit in the mid-to-upper range, and Ruby, Sapphire, Black Pearl, Emerald and a strong Case Hardened blue gem are the top tier. Against its peers the Flip is cheaper than a Karambit or Butterfly of the same finish but typically pricier than a Gut Knife, Falchion, Navaja or Shadow Daggers, placing it squarely in the value-knife conversation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Flip Knife a good first knife?
It is a common starter ★ because the same finishes cost less than on the premium models. A camo or solid-color Flip is among the cheapest real knives in CS2, and a Doppler or Fade Flip gives a recognizable finish without Karambit-level pricing.
What is the most expensive Flip Knife?
The top tier is the rare Doppler/Gamma Doppler colorways — Ruby, Sapphire, Black Pearl and Emerald — along with a clean Marble Fade Fire & Ice and a high-tier Case Hardened blue gem. Exact prices move with the market, so check live listings.
How do I get a Flip Knife?
Either unbox it from one of the older cases that contain it (Chroma, Gamma, the original Arms Deal-era cases, etc.) using a matching key, or buy the exact finish you want directly from the Steam Community Market or a third-party marketplace. Buying skips the roughly 0.26% knife odds.
What's the difference between Doppler Phases on a Flip Knife?
Phases 1–4 are different swirl colorings of the same Doppler finish. Phase 2 and Phase 4 tend to be the most sought after for their pink/purple and black-blue looks, and the rare Ruby, Sapphire and Black Pearl come from the same pool at much lower odds.
Does float matter on a Flip Knife?
It matters for finishes that scratch — anodized and camo skins like Blue Steel or Boreal Forest look worse at high float. Fade and Marble Fade keep their appearance regardless of wear, and Vanilla has no float value. Doppler usually only appears in low-wear conditions.
What is Fire & Ice on the Flip Knife?
It's a specific Marble Fade pattern where red and blue marbling sit together cleanly on the blade. A balanced layout is determined by the pattern seed and trades at a premium over ordinary Marble Fade seeds.
