What to Do If Steam Servers Are Down
- Check your connection — Open another website. If it loads fine — the issue is on Steam's side
- Restart Steam — Fully close the client (tray → Exit) and reopen it
- Change download region — Steam → Settings → Downloads → Region. Pick the nearest working server
- Verify game files — Right-click game → Properties → Local Files → Verify integrity
- Go offline — Steam → Go Offline. Single-player games will still be available
Steam Maintenance Schedule
Valve performs weekly Steam server maintenance on Tuesday evenings US time, typically around 00:00 UTC on Wednesday. Maintenance affects all services: Store, Community, game servers, and Connection Managers. Usually takes 15-30 minutes.
During major sales, game updates, or new title launches, server load increases significantly. Connection Managers may experience higher latency, but the Steam client will automatically connect to the nearest available server.

How do I check Steam server status?
Our tool automatically checks Steam servers every 60 seconds from our own infrastructure. We monitor platform services (Store, Community, API, the CM network), game servers (CS2, Dota 2, TF2), and CS2 datacenters via Valve's official API.
Why are Steam servers down?
Steam servers can go down for several reasons: scheduled weekly maintenance (Tuesday evenings US time, around 00:00 UTC Wednesday), game updates, DDoS attacks, or high traffic during sales and popular game launches.
What are Steam Connection Managers?
Connection Managers (CM) are the servers the Steam client logs in through: authentication, friends, chat. They sit in datacenters worldwide. The table above lists the CMs from Valve's official directory that our server genuinely probes. If a CM in your region is overloaded or down, Steam automatically routes you to the nearest available one.
How are CS2 datacenters different from CMs?
CS2 datacenters are Counter-Strike 2 matchmaking game servers; Valve publishes their state and load in the ICSGOServers_730 API. CMs are the login infrastructure of the Steam network itself. We show them separately because they are different systems: CS2 can have issues while Steam is fine, and vice versa.
How often does the status update?
Status updates automatically every 60 seconds. You can also click the refresh button for an immediate check. All checks run from our servers against Steam's backend services, so response times reflect server-to-Steam latency rather than your personal connection.
Is it a Steam issue or my internet?
If all services show green but Steam isn't working for you — the issue is likely on your end. Try restarting your router or use mobile data as a test. If multiple services show red — the issue is on Steam's side. For a quick overview check, use our Steam outage detector.
