Every Case Hardened is painted by one of 1000 seeds that fix the blue, gold and purple layout. Seeds with heavy blue on the playside — "blue gems" — trade at multiples of the base skin, so the seed matters more than the wear.

How the tier system works

Valve publishes no tiers. The game rolls a paint seed from 0–1000 at unboxing; the community (csbluegem-class databases and marketplace pattern guides) ranks the results by how much blue lands on the playside. Tier lists on this page are those published rankings, sourced and dated, not our judgment.

Seed and wear multiply. A Tier 1 seed on a Battle-Scarred body is still a blue gem, but the same seed in Factory New can be a six-figure item, because high-float and low-float copies of a given seed are separate physical supplies. The only Factory New #387 Karambit is the canonical example.

The board above prices the base skin: any seed, cheapest wear. Canon-seed listings are rare and priced case-by-case; use the inspect links to verify a seed before paying a pattern premium.

What is a blue gem?

A Case Hardened seed where the playside is mostly or fully blue. Canon lists rank 13 AK-47 seeds and 41 Karambit seeds into Tier 1 and Tier 2; #661 (AK) and #387 (Karambit) top the lists.

Which seed is the best on the AK-47?
